Research, Writing & Editing

HKA retains an experienced staff of technical Researchers, Writers and Editors who use their respective skills to ensure that critical product data is properly collected, assembled, reviewed, analyzed and organized.

Researchers collect and assemble source data packages for use in the creation of product support documentation in the form of product Operation, Maintenance, or Training manuals. This source data may consist of engineering drawing packages, maintenance plans, photographs, test data, engineering change proposals, logistics support analysis data, etc…. It is verified with customer engineering to ensure its accuracy and completeness before committing it to documentation development. Any conflicting or incomplete information is researched and resolved with the customer’s technical point of contact.

Writers utilize the assembled source data packages as the basis from which to develop the specific product documentation required. Typically, their initial task is to create a manual outline which contains the proposed content of the finished documentation for customer approval and acceptance. Once outline approval is received the Writer then proceeds with analysis of the source data in relationship to content and format specifications being sited as applicable for the project. These specifications can be commercially available, customer specific, Government non-military or Department Of Defense (DoD). HKA works on a daily basis with a wide variety of commercial and Government specifications.

The writer then creates the initial draft of the subject document. The draft is subjected to technical review and is then electronically authored into its formatted arrangement. This draft version is then submitted to the customer for review and comment. Dependent upon the complexity of the project there may be a need for multiple review cycles where customer comments and running changes are incorporated into the draft version of the document until customer acceptance is achieved. The document is then 'finalized' into deliverable form.

Editors review assembled documentation for consistency and compliance with production standards and governing specifications. This ensures that the deliverable documentation is of high quality and consistency, especially when it may be a part of a larger library of documentation.

Using these proven methods to create millions of pages of technical documentation in accordance with a wide variety of governing specifications gives HKA the unique experience and expertise you can rely on to develop your product support documentation.
