NAVAIR E-2C Rotodome Documentation. Our NAVAIR customer came to us with a problematic maintenance documentation project. The problem stemmed from lack of accurate source data since hundreds of computerized engineering drawing files that were supposed to contain detailed radar equipment drawings for the E-2C aircraft in reality contained no usable data. Maintenance of this complex equipment was performed by highly experienced technicians whose expertise was passed down to junior technicians via on the job training. Little or no formal maintenance documentation existed. It became our task to glean the required maintenance information from hundreds of poor quality manufacturer’s engineering drawings, photographs and our notes from technical discussions with engineers and maintenance personnel. This task spanned nearly one year and required several source data verification trips to ensure data accuracy. All of the illustrated parts breakdowns necessary to accurately represent the equipment in the field were developed by our Technical Writers and Illustrators from this data and the supporting maintenance procedures written. We delivered the documentation required to operate and maintain this critical system on time and within budget and our customer was elated to have formal technical manuals upon which to rely for maintenance of this complex equipment and training of support personnel.
